Sandakphu

You don’t have to leave West Bengal to catch a glimpse of snow. Sandakphu, famously called the ‘Land of Land Rovers,’ is ideal for a 5-day getaway. From Manebhanjan, you can hire a classic Land Rover to take you up to Tumling — snow starts appearing as you climb higher. Between Tumling and Phalut, the trail turns into a magical white wonderland. Prefer trekking? You can hike all the way up too. The trip can easily be managed within ₹10,000–₹12,000 per person.

Changu and Nathu La (Sikkim)

Sikkim becomes a paradise of snow during the winters. Changu Lake's turquoise waters freeze over, and the route leading to Nathu La is covered in a thick layer of snow. The temperatures often dip below zero, and at times, excessive snowfall blocks the roads. You can also explore Kupup, Nathang Valley, and Zuluk- all remaining snow-clad throughout the season. The entire trip from travelling to staying can be done in approximately ₹ 15,000 per person.

Auli (Uttarakhand)

For those ready to spend a bit more, Auli is the ultimate winter destination. It is famous for its ski slopes and ropeway rides, and during winter, Auli's meadows turn completely white, so you get the feeling of being inside a postcard. You can also merge the trip with Rudraprayag, Joshimath, Karnaprayag, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. Total cost: ₹20,000-₹25,000 per person price of a true winter holiday.
