Kolkata’s Metro Railway system went ahead of its previous ridership record, by serving 9.82 lakh passengers on September 27, Panchami. Panchami is the day that witnessed both the city’s festive spirit and the growing importance of the metro lines in Kolkata. The milestone was announced by Metro authorities, that the earlier highest daily count of 9.61 lakh set last October has been broken, and showed the important role of public transport as Durga Puja begins in the city of joy.

Breaking down the record and rider trends

The authorities reported that out of the total, the iconic ‘Blue Line’ was responsible for serving 7.43 lakh journeys, while the ‘Green Line’ served 2.21 lakh commuters. The rise in ridership shows both increased connectivity and the importance of the metro in festival travel, as the city’s residents and visitors migrate to pandals and festive happenings in the city. The Metro’s announcement comes with rising public needs and excitement for Durga Puja, Kolkata’s biggest annual celebration.

Metro’s festive readiness: extended hours and enhanced security

Metro officials have released notices regarding the availability of night-long service extensions in both the Blue and Green lines to help citizens travel on Saptami, Astami, and Navami. The initiative is planned to help lakhs of commuters by offering continuous service to the city’s hotspots with no disruption. There will be extra staff, officers, and security personnel who will be deployed, promising smoother, safer travel as festival crowds increase.

Kolkata Metro’s planning looks forward to improving passenger experience and faster, reliable travel, trying to minimize delays and any kind of disruption as the city decks up with festivities.

The record highlights public transport’s increasing resilience to travel and its important role in urban lifestyles, especially during Durga Puja.

Kolkata Metro’s festive surge is both a logistical win and an important note to the city’s vibrant collective spirit. As the celebrations go on, passengers can expect seamless metro journeys powered by routine and commitment.
