Kolkata Police has issued a formal notice to the Tridhara Sammilani Durga Puja Committee, directing it to immediately stop the performance of the Aghori dance at its puja pandal. The directive was issued by Rabindra Sarobar Police Station in response to growing safety concerns during the ongoing festivities.
According to the notice, the Aghori dance, which was being performed in front of the pandal as well as at two other locations within the premises, has been creating serious congestion. Authorities noted that the performance was drawing large crowds and causing blockages, thereby posing risks to visitor movement and overall safety.
The notice says, "During puja arrangement duty 2025, it has been observed that "Aghori Dance" in front of Tridhara Akalbodhan Puja Pandal and others two places inside of the pandal, which causing serious conjunction for safety of the visitors to your puja pandal.This is a grave concern which needs to be attended immediately.You are hereby requested to immediately stop the "Aghori Dance" to ensure safety of public life."
Cultural displays are an integral part of Durga Puja celebrations to attract people, and as the Durga Puja in Kolkata is huge nowadays, crowd management and visitor safety should be the topmost priority. The Puja committee has been asked to ensure compliance with the order to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival.
Officials further stated that maintaining smooth visitor flow at popular pandals like Tridhara Sammilani is essential, especially given the high footfall during the peak festive days. The puja organizers are expected to cooperate fully with law enforcement to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for devotees.
