The Bengal U-19 boys showed a stellar performance in the first match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and clinched their first victory against Bihar. The Bengal U-19 team is now participating in the elite group phase of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Yesterday, the Bengal boys started their campaign with a 43-run win over neighbouring state Bihar.
Bihar won the toss and chose to field first. Batting first, Bengal’s Ankit Chatterjee and Aditya Roy both played exceptionally well, each scored brilliant half-centuries, and formed an important partnership of 55 runs. After Ankit was dismissed, Captain Chandrarahas Dash and Agniswar Das made significant contributions. Agniswar then paired with Sayan Paul to build another vital partnership of 40 runs. Sayan Paul’s brilliant knock of 39 runs and Asutosh Kumar’s quick cameo of 35 runs in 16 balls helped Bengal to put a total of 259 runs in 50 overs.
In the second innings, Bihar only made 216 runs with losing all wickets in 47.2 overs, conceding only 34 runs in 9.2 overs. Bengal’s Agastya Shukla took 4 wickets. Rohit Kumar Das took 3 wickets, and Ashutosh Kumar took 2 wickets respectively.
Among the Bihar batters, only captain MD Alam and wicketkeeper Taufique stood tall. Taufique scored 40 runs in 33 balls with the help of 4 sixes and one boundary. Agastya Shukla took his important wicket.
The Bengal U-19 team will face tough opponents like Kerala, Saurashtra, and Haryana in elite group B. Bengal will face Madhya Pradesh at CAP Ground 4 of Pondicherry on 11th October.
