Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was not in his usual rhythm during the previous season of the Indian Premier League. He left for the Delhi team to take a captaincy position with the newly formed Lucknow Super Giants.
LSG, however, ended up near the bottom of the points table. To return to the following season, they have started their intensive preparation. The coaching staff has undergone numerous changes as a result. Bharat Arun has assumed the role of bowling coach. There's a big surprise coming- experienced cricketer Kane Williamson from New Zealand has joined the Lucknow team, but not as a batsman or off-spin bowler.
Several published reports state that Williamson joined at the special request of Sanjiv Goenka, co-owner of the Lucknow Super Giants. He is now a strategic advisor on this team. Experts predict that he will use his long history of playing international cricket and the IPL to help the team succeed. Zaheer Khan was in charge as LSG's mentor during the previous season. He was replaced by Williamson. Sanjiv Goenka confirmed this news by posting on social media on Thursday morning.
In that post, he wrote, “Kane has been a part of the Super Giants family, and it’s an absolute delight to welcome him in his new role as Strategic Advisor for @LucknowIPL. His leadership, strategic insight, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire players make him an invaluable addition to the team.”
LSG is desperate to turn around under Justin Langer, Kane Williamson and Bharat Arun.
However, bringing the Indian pace attack built around Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan back to rhythm is their biggest challenge. Most of the bowlers were plagued by injuries last season. In batting too, the team was overly dependent on Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Overcoming that is also Lucknow's goal.
