Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly extended his Diwali wish this morning, October 20.

CAB had the festive wishes conveyed through an official video on its Facebook page, with former India captain exuding his familiar charm and optimism, saying, “On behalf of the Cricket Association of Bengal, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Diwali. May the festival of lights bring happiness, safety and everything you want in your life.”

Ganguly comes back to lead CAB after six years

Sourav Ganguly was voted back in as CAB President this September at the association's 94th annual general meeting, ending a six-year-long absence. He previously held the post from 2015 to 2019 and succeeded his brother, Snehashish Ganguly, who finished his six-year term.

Of his top priorities, Ganguly emphasised increasing Eden Gardens' capacity to lakh spectators and hosting marquee matches for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He also welcomed the return of Test cricket to the Eden Gardens as India hosts South Africa on November 14- the first match at the venue after the iconic 2019 day-night Test vs Bangladesh.

Ganguly is committed to developing Bengal's cricket infrastructure, such as setting up a world-class academy in Dumurjala, Howrah, on nine acres with all modern facilities and floodlights. The project, which was drawn from the Kalyani Academy, will take 1–1.5 years for completion.

Under him, CAB's Vision 2020 initiative is being taken to greater heights with a focus towards 2036 to develop cricketers who can represent India in the Olympics. The development fund for district associations and state units has also risen from Rs 5 crore to Rs 8 crore, signalling Ganguly's emphasis on grassroots cricket.
