The fight that began in 1973 has finally borne fruit. Team India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, won their first ODI World Cup on home soil. The journey wasn’t easy — in 2017, they came heartbreakingly close but returned empty-handed. The players lost their nerve in big matches multiple times. This time, rising above everything, they delivered brilliantly. The much-awaited World Cup was finally in their hands. And while receiving the World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur did something that has sparked discussion.

After the match at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, ICC President Jay Shah handed over the World Cup to Harmanpreet Kaur. Before taking the trophy, Harmanpreet was seen bowing down to touch Jay Shah’s feet as a gesture of respect. As she bent down to touch his feet, Jay Shah stopped her and handed over the World Cup. Harmanpreet is being praised for this gesture. Everyone has praised that even after winning the World Cup, she did not forget her values.

This incident has drawn mixed reactions. A section of netizens believes that after Harmanpreet went to bow to Jay Shah, she remembered that Jay Shah is the ICC President. So, if she bowed, it could send a different message. That's why both Jay Shah and Harmanpreet refrained from it.

After Jay Shah took the ICC helm, he first increased the allocation of funds for women's cricket. The result of this is a massive increase in the prize money for this World Cup. In some cases, the prize money has been increased by 250 per cent or even more in some areas. Earlier, BCCI had announced an equal pay scale for male and female cricketers.
