India vs South Africa first Test may end on the third day itself. So far, the Proteas are ahead by 100 runs. If India can pick up the remaining three wickets quickly, they will regain some control of the match. However, batting in the fourth innings on this Eden pitch will not be easy at all. In such a situation, pressure has increased further on the Indian camp. Shubman Gill will not be able to play in the ongoing Test.

He will remain in the hospital on Sunday as well. According to multiple reports, he has been kept in the ICU. Now the BCCI has shared an update on the Indian captain’s injury.

What has BCCI said about Shubman’s injury?

On Saturday, Indian captain Shubman Gill left the field after facing three balls due to injury. Later, it was informed that he had to be admitted to a private hospital due to a strain in his neck muscles. At that moment, doubts grew about his participation in the first Test. The BCCI has confirmed that.

Today in the morning, BCCI shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), “Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play.”

The statement also added, “He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team.”

Although the Board has only announced that he will not play in the first Test, experts believe Gill’s injury is quite serious. Reports state that due to acute neck spasm, Shubman is experiencing severe pain and discomfort. However, he has been kept in the ICU only for monitoring purposes.

According to a report published in RevSportz, a six-member medical team has been formed for Gill’s treatment. The team includes a cardiologist and a neurologist. The second Test starts in Guwahati from November 22. Cricket fans are now waiting to see whether Shubman recovers before that match.
