India created history at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, defeating South Africa by 52 runs to lift the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team delivered a commanding performance with both bat and ball, ending the tournament on an unforgettable high.
Initially, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. Shafali Verma scored a half-century, providing the team with a vital competitive start. Along with that, Deepali Sharma also hit a half-century. Combining both their competitive gameplay, Team India had a great start in the match. Finally, India set a target of 299 runs for 7 wickets.
Batting first, India posted 298/7, powered by a valuable 58 from Deepti Sharma, while the bowlers, led by Deepti again with a match winning spell of of 5 wickets held their nerve in the tense chase.
