Franchise officials who had discussions with BCCI authorities informed Cricbuzz that conversations are centered on those dates, though the league's Governing Council has yet to finalize the calendar.
IPL 2026 auction set for fireworks with major releases
Cricbuzz reported there is no indication that the auction would be held overseas. The last two editions of the auction were held overseas, first in Dubai (2023), and then in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2024). The franchise sources disclosed to Cricbuzz that it would not be surprising if the BCCI held the mini-auction in India. Again. Though everything is in the talking stage right now, nothing has been finalized yet.
The cricbuzz also reported that it is almost guaranteed that the retention deadline will be November 15. By then, franchises will have to submit the list of players' names whom they want to retain and release.
There are several reports roaming around that players like T Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and Venkatesh Iyer are all set to be released from their respective franchises.
Cricbuzz reported that CSK will be one of the top teams to release a major number of players, along with the Rajasthan Royals. According to reports Rajasthan Royal is set to release their most prominent player, Sanju Samson, whereas the CSK is set to release players like Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and Devon Conway. Also, Ashwin’s retirement from all forms of cricket will add 9.75 crore rupees to their purse.
