While Yashasvi Jaiswal is a regular in team India's test cricket, he remains absent in ODI matches. For some unknown reason, he is not given opportunities in ODI and T20. Although he made his ODI cricket debut against England in February this year, he was benched after one match. After Shubman Gill became captain in ODI cricket, Jaiswal could be a preferred choice to open with him. But he is not getting that opportunity because of Rohit Sharma. India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has now spoken about this.
Before the second ODI, Sitanshu Kotak was asked at a press conference about giving Yashasvi Jaiswal an opportunity. He said that Yashasvi is leaving no stone unturned in his efforts to get a chance in the first eleven.
Yashasvi's record in red-ball cricket is eye-catching. Multiple centuries, double hundreds, and he can score runs in any situation. But he has not been able to win the same trust in white-ball cricket as in red-ball cricket. Especially his ability to rotate strike in white-ball cricket has kept him in the back row. Sitanshu Kotak says, Yashasvi is in the squad and is working hard for an opportunity. Yashasvi knows that the opportunity will come to him. So he is preparing. At the end of the day, only 11 can play.
Experts have put forward multiple reasons for Yashasvi not getting opportunities. One of the main reasons is Rohit Sharma. Rohit still opens in ODI cricket. This is why Yashasvi is not getting an opening opportunity. Along with this, there is another reason. According to NDTV, selectors want Yashasvi to specialise in red-ball cricket. Yashasvi's strike rate in 33 Test matches is 85.97.
However, Yashasvi is leaving no stone unturned in his efforts for an opportunity. He is developing himself as an all-rounder. He has been seen practising leg spin bowling in the nets. Although Yashasvi's bowling skills have not been tested in international cricket, his bowling ability will keep him ahead.
