When it comes to being vocal after a divorce, very few have been as vocal as Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal. Recently, he sparked a stir on social media with a post — only to delete it soon after, which has now reignited debate online.
The controversy began after the Delhi High Court delivered a verdict on alimony.
Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal shared a cryptic Instagram story featuring a picture that says, “Financially independent wives cannot demand alimony from their husbands. Alimony is given for social justice, it's not a tool for enrichment."
Chahal captioned the picture of this judgment on his Instagram story, writing over it, "Maa Kasam Khao Nahi Paltoge iss Decision Seh (Swear on your mother you won't change this decision)."
Soon after, the cricketer deleted the post. However, by then, screenshots of his story had already gone viral, leading to speculation about why he removed it.
The internet remains divided; some believe Chahal was taking a dig at his ex-wife Dhanashree Verma, while others think he was simply joking. Chahal, however, has not clarified his reason for deleting the post.
For context in this matter, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma married in 2020 and reportedly divorced earlier this year. Reports claim he paid ₹4 crore as alimony, though neither party has confirmed this publicly.
