Sehwag congratulates Pulwama martyr’s son Rahul on Haryana U-19 call-up

Supported by Virender Sehwag’s free education initiative, Pulwama martyr’s son Rahul Soreng rises to Haryana Under-19 cricket.

February 14, 2019, marks one of the darkest days in India's history. On this day, 40 paramilitary personnel lost their lives in the militant attack in Pulwama. Vijay Soreng was among these martyrs. Fulfilling the dream of Vijay Soreng, who sacrificed his life fighting for the country, his son Rahul Soreng has now received an opportunity in the Haryana Under-19 cricket team. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag congratulated him.

After the 2019 Pulwama attack, Virender Sehwag announced assistance for the education of the martyrs' children. He announced free education for each of them. Following that announcement, Rahul got admitted to Sehwag International School. He started his studies staying in the school's boarding. Cricket began there. And now he got an opportunity on the big stage.

Writing about Rahul on his X handle, Sehwag said, "Congratulations to Rahul Soreng on being selected in the under-19 Haryana team. Since his brave father attained martyrdom in Pulwama, it has been my privilege to support Rahul and i am extremely proud of his journey."

Last December, Rahul got an opportunity in Haryana's Under-16 team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Before that, he had got an opportunity in Haryana's Under-14 team. Now he received a call for the Under-19 team.

Along with Rahul, Aditya Pande and Shivam Anand also got opportunities in the Under-19 team. They got the opportunity representing Jhajjar district cricket team.
