Australia will face India in the semifinals of the Women’s World Cup 2025 after a dominant seven-wicket win over South Africa in Indore on Saturday. With the victory, Australia secured the top position on the league table and will meet the hosts at Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. India, even if they beat Bangladesh in their final league on the Sunday match, cannot move above fourth place.
A spell India won’t ignore
Leg-spinner Alana King produced a career-best 7/18 in seven overs, running through the South African batting order and bowling them out for just 97 in 24 overs. Her spell is now the best bowling performance in Women’s World Cup history and the finest by an Australian in women’s ODIs.
South Africa’s chase never recovered once opener Laura Wolvaardt departed for 31. From there, King dismissed Sune Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Annerie Dercksen, Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk, tightening Australia’s grip over the contest.
Australia lost Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry early in the chase, but the result was never in doubt. Beth Mooney (42) and Georgia Voll (38)* stitched a steady stand to wrap up the target with 199 balls to spare, extending Australia’s unbeaten run in the tournament.
India booked their knockout berth earlier after their enormous win against New Zealand and will now prepare for their toughest assignment of the campaign — a World Cup semifinal against the defending champions.
The semifinal between India and Australia will be played at Navi Mumbai on October 30.
