Indian batter and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has spoken publicly for the first time since suffering a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.
Iyer took to his social media on Thursday, thanking fans and well-wishers for their concern, writing, “I'm currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received- it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”

The 30-year-old Indian cricketer hurt his ribcage region while making a running catch to send Australia's Alex Carey back. The action, which was initially caused by jubilation, soon turned ominous as Iyer crumpled to the ground holding his ribs in evident agony. He was unable to support himself and had to be helped off by the physio staff.

After the incident, on October 25, BCCI stated, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury to his left rib cage while fielding. He has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation and assessment of his injury.” Sharing further medical update of Shreyas Iyer, BCCI on October 28 said, “A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery.”

Though the update has been a sigh of relief for the fans, Iyer is reportedly expected to miss at least two months of action, as RevSportz reports. This would almost certainly rule him out for South Africa's ODI series later this month, with the possibility of a return for India's tour of New Zealand in January.
