The hunt for a new Indian T20I captain has taken a new shift. The news broke with Shreyas Iyer’s name, and several other names also came up in the talks. Names like Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson also came up in the talk. As reported by PTI, Gautam Gambhir is going to take a call on Surya Kumar Yadav’s captaincy as the management is not fully convinced with his role purely as a batter.
As quoted by PTI, the BCCI source said, “Initially, the selectors thought that the IPL would help Suryakumar regain form like the last edition when he crossed 700 runs. But strangely, there hasn't been any technical course correction in his game. Even the rookiest of pacers are just bowling straight hard lengths, and he has no answer. Selectors don't see him playing the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. It is as simple as that”

Surya Kumar Yadav’s run drought has sparked debate for a long time now; his lack of runs has put the team under tough scrutiny. Shubman Gill can also come as one of the top contenders after setting standards in the IPL, though if he comes, the management has to slot him as an opener, for that, they will need to go with Sanju at three and Ishan Kishan at four.
