Richa Ghosh, the girl from Siliguri, played a brilliant innings of 94 runs in just 77 balls against the South African women's team. This is the highest score by any batter in the number 8 position in women's cricket.

The Indian women's team was in trouble when Richa came to the crease. Richa’s trailblazing innings helped the team reach a respectable total. Her innings took India to 251 in 49.5 overs from 102/6 in 26 overs, showing how to perform in a two-paced pitch. She hit her seventh ODI fifty with eleven fours and four sixes, and this stellar innings made her the all-time highest run scorer at the number 8 position in women's cricket. Richa broke several other records in the match. However, her record-breaking innings did not take the team to the winning line.

Who is Richa Ghosh?

Richa Ghosh is also from former cricketer Wriddhiman Saha’s place, Siliguri. The Girl from Hills is now touching the skies. The 22-year-old wicket keeper made her first international appearance in 2020 against Australia in T20IS and made her ODI debut as the 133rd player in 2021 against Australia. On December 19, 2024, Richa Ghosh scored the joint fastest fifty in women's T20Is, helping India to reach their highest-ever total in the format during the third T20I vs West Indies Women's.

Richa Ghosh recalled her childhood days on the RCB Podcast of training alongside males and frequently travelling between Siliguri and Kolkata. She said her father did everything he could to provide her daughter with the resources she needed to become an excellent cricket player. She also added that "We used to do (power-hitting) challenges when I was a kid. He never stopped me from hitting fours and sixes. The club's coaches focused on the fundamentals, such as drives and playing along the ground. But Papa always encouraged me by saying, tu bindaas mar." Richa's father, Manabendra Ghosh, was always confident in his daughter's competitive talents, noting that she constantly battled with him and wanted to defeat him in these endeavours as well.

Richa broke several records on October 9. The previous high was Chloe Tryon's 74 runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo earlier in 2025. Richa also becomes the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in Women's One-Day Internationals.
