Is the East Bengal Club and the sponsor dispute coming out in public? East Bengal's turmoil is at its peak ahead of the Super Cup over the Sandip Nandy issue. On Monday, Goalkeeper coach Sandip Nandy had a heated argument with head coach Óscar Bruzón on the day of Kali Puja. Humiliated, Sandip immediately resigned and vented his anger out on Bruzón. "It's not possible to work after this kind of humiliation," Sandip told 'Ei Samay Online' from the Goa airport. ’
While venting out, he also added an important information, "The coach doubts me." But why? In response to his own question, he said, "The coach thinks I am a member of the club. And he thinks that I will lead him in the wrong direction. That's why he's so upset about Debjit's issue. I think maybe he believes I did all this on purpose." From Sandip's statement, it is becoming clear that there are two divisions in the team. One is identified as a group of the club, the other is the group of the sponsor. So is East Bengal suffering from a club versus sponsor duel?
Debabrata Sarkar, the head of the Red and Yellow teams, could not be reached over the phone. When contacted, Emami boss Aditya Aggarwal said that there is no problem with the club. "If Sandip had been going through trouble for so long, why didn't he tell me earlier?" he asked.
Just before the Super Cup, how much of an impact will this red-yellow civil war have on the team? Aditya said, "I don't think there will be any impact. Footballers are mentally strong, so I don't think it will have any impact." Emami doesn't seem to be much worried over Sandip's resignation.
While Aditya Agarwal dismissed any trouble with the club, some of the earlier comments by Debabrata Sarkar showed that there was a gap between the club and the sponsor. Regarding the release of Dimitrius Dimantakos, Debabrata said he came to know about it from newspapers. That's not all, at the time of the appointment of Thangboi Singto, he claimed that the club was not informed about it. All in all, there is an underlying tension going on between the red and yellow, but for now, both sides are keeping their mouth shut.
