Atlético Madrid has firmly rejected Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Julián Alvarez despite submitting a massive 150 million offer for the Argentine striker. The proposal, one of the biggest in football history, was turned down immediately as Atletico made it clear that Alvarez is not for sale.
The Spanish giants were keen to add the World Cup-winning forward to their squad ahead of the new season. However, Atletico’s hierarchy showed no interest in entering negotiations, underlining the club’s determination to retain one of its most important players.
Atletico refuse to negotiate
Real Madrid made a formal 150 million bid for Alvarez to Atletico Madrid after discussions within the club. Atletico confirmed receipt of the offer, but their response was clear: Alvarez is an integral part of their long-term plans.

The Madrid-based club pointed to the striker’s contract, which reportedly includes a 500 million release clause. With such a high valuation in place, Atletico saw no reason to entertain Real Madrid’s proposal.

The decision also reflects Atletico’s reluctance to strengthen a direct domestic rival. Alvarez has become a central figure under Diego Simeone and is viewed as one of the pillars of the team’s future project.
Alvarez remains vital to Atletico’s plans
Real Madrid’s interest came amid expectations of a major signing under president Florentino Perez. Alvarez was identified as the club’s preferred target thanks to his consistent performances and growing reputation as one of Europe’s top forwards.

The Argentine enjoyed an impressive campaign, delivering goals and influential displays across competitions. His ability to play across the front line and perform in high-pressure matches has made him one of the most sought-after attackers in world football.
Despite the enormous offer, Atletico’s stance remained unchanged. The club believes Alvarez is indispensable and has no intention of parting ways with him unless an extraordinary bid meets the terms of his contract.
For now, Alvarez is set to continue leading Atletico’s attack, while Real Madrid may have to explore other options in their search for a marquee signing ahead of the new season.
