Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker eye 25m pistol final at ISSF World Championship

Indian shooters Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker remain in strong contention for a place in the women’s 25m Sport Pistol final at the ISSF World Championship after the precision stage.

Indian shooters Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker remained well-placed to qualify for the women's 25m Sport Pistol final at the ISSF World Championship after a solid show in the precision stage held here on Thursday.

Esha Singh is currently lying fourth in the 85-shooter field with a score of 294-11x, having shot 98, 97 and 99 in her three series so far. The double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker is lying seventh, having returned 292-11x (98, 96, 98). Both Esha and Manu are well-placed to make the top eight, who go through to the medal round after the qualification is complete. The third Indian shooter in the event, Rahi Sarnobat, is placed 56th, having managed 284-7x (95, 96, 93), PTI reported.

Turkey's Tarhan leads qualification round

At the top of the leaderboard is Sevval Ilayda Tarhan of Turkey, who shot a brilliant 299-12x (100, 100, 99), missing perfection by a single point. She is followed by Camille Jedrzejewski of France, the Paris Olympic silver medalist and Haniyeh Rostamiyan of Iran, both tied at 295-13x, with the French shooter taking second place on countback.

Iranian shooters Golnoush Sebghatollahi and Mina Ghorbani follow at fifth and sixth places respectively, both scoring 292-13x. The top eight is rounded off by Lin Jou-Yu of Chinese Taipei with 292-9x (97, 97, 98).

Rapid stage and final scheduled for Friday

As per the PTI report, the qualification-Rapid stage is scheduled for Friday and will be followed by the final later the same day, with the medalists being decided in the women's 25m Sport Pistol.
