Instagram is giving users a new way to personalise their profiles with the rollout of a long-requested grid reordering feature. The update allows users to rearrange the placement of posts on their profile grid while keeping the original publishing dates intact, marking one of the platform's most significant profile customisation changes in recent years.
The feature is aimed at helping creators, businesses and individual users present their content in a more deliberate and visually appealing way. Until now, profile grids largely followed a chronological structure, apart from a limited number of pinned posts that could be highlighted at the top of a profile.
With the new tool, users can redesign their profile layout without deleting, reposting or modifying existing content.
Users can now curate their profile appearance
According to Gadgets 360, the update offers greater flexibility for anyone who treats Instagram as a portfolio, personal brand showcase or business storefront. Instead of being constrained by posting dates, users can arrange content according to themes, campaigns, aesthetics or current priorities.
To access the feature, users need to visit their profile, press and hold a post, select the "Reorder Grid" option and move the content to the desired position. Once the changes are saved, the new arrangement becomes immediately visible to profile visitors.
Importantly, while the visual order changes, the original upload date and engagement history of each post remain unaffected.

A feature years in the making
According to Gadgets 360, the rollout comes after years of requests from Instagram users seeking more control over their profile presentation. Last year, Adam Mosseri had indicated that the company was actively working on a grid reordering feature, fueling anticipation among creators and social media professionals.
The launch reflects a broader shift in how social platforms are evolving beyond chronological feeds and standardised layouts. Instagram increasingly views profiles as personal showcases where users can express identity, creativity and professional branding.
For photographers, artists, influencers and businesses, the feature offers new opportunities to create visually cohesive grids, highlight key projects and maintain a polished online presence.

Part of Instagram's wider creator strategy
According to Gadgets 360, the grid reordering tool arrives as Instagram continues expanding features aimed at creators and businesses amid growing competition from rival platforms. The company has been investing heavily in creator-focused tools, content discovery features and monetisation options to keep users engaged.
By allowing profiles to be curated more strategically, Instagram is addressing one of the platform's most persistent limitations. Users can now refresh the appearance of their profiles whenever needed without sacrificing the performance history of older posts.
