Tata has launched an updated version of their smallest electric SUV, the Punch. EV, in India. The ex-showroom price of this new model starts from ₹9.69 lakh and goes up to ₹12.59 lakh. Through this update, Tata has added a new design, a bigger battery option, improved range and more features to the Punch. EV. The company aims to make this EV more usable for short-distance travel both within cities and outside urban areas. Bookings have already started, and deliveries will begin very soon.
Opportunity to buy at lower price
Tata has introduced the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option in the Punch. EV for the first time. In this model, the initial price of the car has been reduced to ₹6.49 lakh. However, a separate subscription of ₹2.6 per kilometre will have to be paid for the battery. This facility will help reduce costs for customers wanting to buy an EV for the first time. Notably, the base variant of the new Punch.EV is available at ₹30,000 less compared to the previous model.
Fresh exterior design: What’s new on the outside?
The new Punch. EV features a new bumper and a clean design at the front. The previous black trim has been removed to give a more modern look. The Y-shaped LED DRL and front charging flap remain the same as before. New 16-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels have been provided on the side of the car. New connected LED taillamps have been added at the rear. The car has a ground clearance of 195mm and the capability to wade through 450mm of water. Three new colour options have also been added.

Additionally, modern features like wireless charging, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera and connected car technology have been provided. Through the Tata IRA.ev app, one can find charging stations, make payments and get vehicle information.
Battery, range & charging
A 40kWh battery option has been added to the new Punch. EV. This battery can run approximately 468 km (ARAI) on a single charge and about 355 km in real-world conditions. There is also a 30kWh battery option available, which has a range of 365 km. Using a 65kW DC fast charger, the battery takes only 26 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. With just 15 minutes of charging, one can get enough charge to travel approximately 135 km.
