OpenAI is reportedly preparing to unveil a new feature called ‘Agent Builder’ during its upcoming DevDay event on October 6, according to a report by TestingCatalog.

The feature is said to introduce an intuitive way for users, especially non-technical ones to create and deploy agentic workflows using a simple, visual interface.

TestingCatalog, which claims to have accessed a preview version of the tool, described it as the “smoothest agent builder canvas” currently in the market.

With its drag-and-drop design and modular layout, the Agent Builder is expected to compete with popular workflow automation tools like Zapier, n8n, and Make, which allow users to connect multiple apps and services through visual nodes and logic flows.

Notably, OpenAI’s Agent Builder will allow users to construct agentic flows essentially intelligent task sequences through predefined templates and interactive building blocks. These components will include logic nodes such as if-else and loops, along with connectors like MCP, user approval checkpoints, guardrails, file search capabilities, and data transformation steps.

“In terms of deployment, users initiate flow creation from a dedicated UI within the OpenAI platform, leveraging a sidebar palette of components,” the report added.

So, the Agent Builder could hugely lower the barrier for individuals and small teams looking to create AI-driven automation. It could also serve as a unifying layer for businesses already experimenting with custom AI workflows, consolidating multiple moving parts into a single OpenAI-native platform.

Greg Isenberg, CEO of Late Checkout, said on X (formerly Twitter), “For 12 months, people have been stitching together tools like n8n, Zapier, Make, Vapi, and Claude workflows to simulate autonomy. It worked but it was duct tape.”

He added that OpenAI’s move could “unify an entire stack of automation tools into a single native layer inside OpenAI’s ecosystem. Non-technical founders get superpowers. Businesses get workflows that run 24/7 without ops [operations] teams.”

Riley Brown, co-founder of VibeCode, echoed the same on X, saying, “For the past three years, people have been making ChatGPT wrappers. I think the next wave will be Agent Wrappers.”
