Samsung in partnering with Google and Qualcomm, has officially disclosed its new Galaxy XR. This is not just another invention of a new gadget, but it is a high-tech headset and the first product in the “Android XR ecosystem,” built with advanced artificial intelligence systems.
In its announcement, Samsung released a statement stating that, “Built on an open, scalable platform with multimodal AI at its core, Galaxy XR marks the beginning of the Android XR ecosystem, unleashing a future of discovery, play and work."
What is Galaxy XR?
Galaxy XR is an extended reality headset that can combine the real-world scenario with digital images (AR or Augmented Reality), or the headset can completely block off the world and turn the moment into a fully digital experience, known as Virtual Reality or VR.
The gadget will cost around $1,800.
Features
Ultra-high-definition 4K micro-OLED screen for each eye, chipset used is Qualcomm, Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, to make the device lighter and comfortable to wear, the battery would be placed in a separate pack connected by a cable.
Besides the operating system provided would be a new Android XR created by Google.
An open platform and multimodal AI system
The two most important mentions by Samsung are the “open platform” and the “multimodal AI”
Open platform: Looking at Apple’s Vision Pro, we can find that Apple uses a closed platform where all the hardware and the software can be controlled only by Apple; however, this new Android XR platform is an open platform, where other companies can create their own headsets or AI glasses, and all the apps combined will work together.
Multimodal AI: This segment is the brain of the entire system, The AI used would be Google’s Gemini and its multimodal. An interesting feature of this model is that it understands the world like a human mind by combining three factors at the same time: the vision (what can be seen through the headset’s cameras), the voice (what you speak), and the gestures (your hand movements).
