India is now the second-largest market for ChatGPT, and OpenAI has turned its attention squarely towards the country’s students. As part of a new initiative titled “Chats for Students in India”, the company has showcased over 50 real examples of how Indian college students including those from IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Delhi Technical Campus are using ChatGPT in their everyday academic grind.

OpenAI says students are no longer treating the chatbot as a shortcut, but as a study partner using it for problem-solving, planning, revision and even creative exploration. Education, in fact, has become ChatGPT’s No.1 use case in India.

How are students using it for exam preps and project guidance?

The company shared dozens of real student prompts, revealing how ChatGPT is now part of mainstream campus life.

For exam preparation, one student prompt read:

“I have an Operating Systems Class Test 2 tomorrow and I want to score full marks… Teach me everything you feel is important from the exam perspective.”

Another popular use? Creating a study schedule before finals. One shared prompt said:

“Create a detailed day-by-day study plan for me with revision, practice tests, and breaks.”

Others are using it to simplify complex topics, like this one:

“Explain the Dining Philosopher Problem from a beginner’s perspective.”

And learning through role-play prompts is also trending. Example:

“Teach me why things float but explain it as if you are Archimedes.”

Students are also using ChatGPT to test themselves before tests. One prompt read:

“Act like my professor and grade my assignment. Tell me where I can lose marks and how to fix it.”

Not just studies but students now use it for college life too

In the shared list, OpenAI also highlighted how ChatGPT is helping students beyond academics.

For emails and communication:

“Draft this email for me in three tones: 1. Formal 2. Semi-formal 3. Friendly.”

For design feedback:

“Act as a professional designer and give top strengths, weaknesses and improvement steps for my design.”

For project innovation:

“Define a single proof of concept for a Spider-Man simulation that goes beyond combat and swinging.”

And sometimes, for fun:

“Be my random outfit generator for the day.”

This mixes half productivity and half personality and shows how deeply embedded ChatGPT has become in Indian student culture.

Why these matters?

OpenAI says Indian students are using the chatbot to build real-world skills like analytical thinking, communication, structured reasoning and creative ideation — instead of just hunting for shortcuts. The company has signalled that it will continue to build India-focused student features in the coming months.
