Millions of people use WhatsApp group chats daily, and now the platform is introducing an easier way to create a new group and continue conversations from where you left off. WhatsApp said many users had asked for the option to see earlier chats in a group so they can stay updated and easily read recent messages. This new update seems helpful, as it lets users share recent chat history with newly added members with just a single tap.

How does WhatsApp’s group message history feature work?

The new Group Message History feature is particularly useful when you add someone new to a group. During the process, WhatsApp shows a “send message history” option, which includes up to the last 100 messages, not days of chat history.

You can choose to send the last 25, 50, 75, or 100 messages. Once shared, the new member will see a label informing them that they have received a message history starting from a specific date and time.

Both group admins and members who add a new person can choose to send the message history. WhatsApp further stated, "For transparency, when message history is sent, everyone in the group is notified, with clear timestamps and sender information, and message history is visually distinct from regular messages."

WhatsApp also confirmed that all messages remain end-to-end encrypted. Everyone in the group is notified at the time the chat history is shared, with complete timestamp details. The group message history feature is rolling out gradually and will be available to all users through an upcoming update.

WhatsApp Web call update

WhatsApp has been trying to add video calling support to its web version for a while, and now the platform is reportedly testing the feature again. The update was spotted in the WhatsApp Web beta, which generally works on browsers like Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.

Until now, users have relied on the Windows or macOS desktop app to make calls, but that may soon change. Video calling on WhatsApp Web has been highly anticipated, and the platform now seems closer than ever to rolling it out widely.
