Qatar had taken the initiative to restore peace in Gaza. The country also played the role of a mediator in the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. It is in this context that Israel has been accused of carrying out an attack. The attack has resulted in the deaths of at least six people, leading to renewed tension in the region. For this attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has apologized to Qatar. Meanwhile, American President Donald Trump has offered proposals for Qatar’s overall security. It has been reported that Trump signed an executive order pledging all forms of assistance, including military action, to protect Qatar.
According to White House sources, the executive order highlights close cooperation between the two countries and their mutual interests. It also promises to ensure the security and territorial integrity of Qatar against external attacks.
The order further states, “Any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the State of Qatar will be considered a threat to the peace and security of the United States.” It adds that in such a situation, Washington “will take all lawful and appropriate measures—including diplomatic, economic, and if necessary, military action—to safeguard the interests of the United States and the State of Qatar and to restore peace and stability.”
Notably, Netanyahu met with Trump on Monday. During the meeting, Trump arranged a phone call between Netanyahu and Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, during which Netanyahu expressed regret over the attack in Doha.
The attack targeted Hamas leaders. Among those killed were the son of Hamas leader Khalil al-Haiyar and an associate named Jihad Labad.
Meanwhile, the White House stated that, after years of mutual accusations and miscommunication, Trump has expressed a desire to steer Israel-Qatar relations toward a positive direction.
