A dramatic video from Singapore has gone viral after a man was seen rescuing a cat from a python by swinging the snake through the air mid-attack.
This one-minute video clip which was filmed and shared by Marcus Lee on Facebook on October 30, shows the startling moment he lifted the python by its tail while it had coiled tightly around a cat inside a roadside drain. According to Lee, he acted on instinct after hearing a “gurgling gasp” from nearby bushes.

“I saw the snake’s exposed tail. In a flash, I seized it and lifted both predator and prey from the concrete,” he wrote in his post. The python was reportedly attempting to suffocate the cat when Lee intervened.
The video shows him holding his phone in one hand while swinging the snake with the other in an attempt to free the animal. After several tries, including using his foot to separate the two, the cat finally managed to break free and darted into nearby shadows. The python later slithered back into the vegetation.
In a follow-up post, Lee shared another clip captioned “Apologising to the python”, drawing attention for his unusual reaction after the rescue.
Debate over intervention
After being uploaded to the Singapore Wildlife Sightings Facebook page, the video went viral quickly and generated a variety of responses. While some users thought that Lee had interfered with a natural predation event which he should not have done, others have praised his courage and compassion.

A few criticized his choice to film the encounter rather than using both of his hands to free the cat faster. Despite all these divided opinions, the video has continued to circulate widely across various platforms, becoming one of the week’s most discussed animal rescue clips in Singapore.
Despite this, the incident's precise location has not been made public.
