As Amazon laid off employees, stories of those affected by the job cuts started appearing on social media. An X user shared about her friend who received the devastating news after returning to Bengaluru from a break.

Netizens began to share accounts of people impacted by Amazon's job cuts as the company laid off workers recently. But how would you feel if you were returning to Bengaluru from a break, and you received that same mail?

Amid the job layoffs, A woman tweeted about her friend who received the termination email after returning to Bengaluru.

A user posted an update on X that went viral, “My friend was working at Amazon. He boarded his flight back to Bengaluru after Diwali break, excited to be back. As soon as he landed, he turned on his phone, there it was. It was “A layoff mail from Amazon”

Netizen’s reaction

Some people gave some advice, while others showed some hope and sympathy. An individual asked, “Do they give any severance package or just tata bye-bye?” To which the X user replied,“Two-month salary, as far as I know.” Another user wrote, “U know most of the companies take advantage of this, and don’t offer good salary and don’t even negotiate.” Another inquired, “Excited to be back?”

The Original poster wrote about the employee’s mental health, “It’s not funny at all, you can’t even imagine the mental state.” Another user replied in her defence, “Guys, its same even in india i too lost job and undergone that 2 times in 3 decades.. so nothing new.. funny was govt taxing severance packages it frustrates.. i cannot even imagine 2020 corona days”

A third commented, “My friend working in Amazon recently received an appreciation and award for good work done and also got a promotion to managerial level last month itself. Today, she got laid off immediately. Even performance doesn't matter to these guys when it comes to layoffs.” A fourth wrote, “Unfortunately, this is the new normal now.”

About Amazon layoffs

On Tuesday, Amazon.com Inc. announced plans to eliminate close to 14,000 corporate positions, about 4% of its white-collar staff, as part of a general restructuring process associated with the company's continued move toward artificial intelligence (AI)-powered operations.

Amazon's Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, Beth Galetti, wrote in a blog post that the decision is an ongoing effort to "reduce bureaucracy, remove layers, and shift resources toward our biggest priorities."
