13 September, Saturday:
Bengalis are almost done wrapping up their shopping for the biggest festival of the year, Durga puja. Yet puja plans may take a hit with sudden changes as the puja weather may take an unexpected turn. According to the most recent weather forecast from the meteorological department predicted that South Bengal may primarily experience light showers along with warm and uncomfortable weather whereas North Bengal faces a significant threat of rainfall.
The South Bengal districts are among the ones in which the Alipore Meteorological Department has a yellow alert issued. The thunderstorms will be accompanied by moderate rainfall and windspeed may go upto 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. The rainfall is expected to be less therefore the locals can enjoy some time for outdoor chores and shopping during the dry spells. It has no direct impact on West Bengal's weather.
The low-pressure system is currently formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal. It is in close proximity to the coastline areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The rainfall is more likely particularly in North Bengal which is a result of cyclonic circulations over the Bay and over southwestern Bihar and neighboring Jharkhand. The districts in North Bengal such as Darjeeling, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri are expected to witness very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 centimeters). The area is still on high alert as these heavy rainfall are expected to persist intermittently through Thursday.
South Bengal residents should plan for sporadic rain and storms but they can mostly plan on with their Puja celebrations. North Bengal faces the possibility of heavy rainfall and warnings throughout the week. It is advised to stay safe during bad weather. The weather service suggests following the appropriate safety bulletins in areas under yellow alert.
