In an unexpected turn of events, four containers parked in front of a hotel suddenly sprang a leak. As the oil within began to cascade onto the street, local villagers, seizing the opportunity, rushed to the scene with buckets, eagerly collecting the spilled liquid.
This peculiar incident unfolded on Sunday near the Hetampur Beat Office in Dubrajpur, Birbhum. Reports indicate that the containers were carrying unrefined palm oil, en route from the dock to a refining center, when the leak occurred.
According to sources, five oil containers were stationed outside a hotel adjacent to the Hetampur Beat Office in Dubrajpur. Without warning, four of these containers developed leaks, causing oil to pool on the road.
Villagers quickly gathered around the containers, seeing this unexpected event unfold. Many, armed with buckets, began scooping up the oil with fervor. Interestingly, at this point, the villagers were oblivious to the fact that they were collecting palm oil. Uninformed and unperturbed, they continued to fill their buckets and transport the oil to their homes.
Reports suggest that upon receiving news of the incident, both the Dubrajpur police and fire brigade promptly arrived at the scene. The police, observing the villagers' enthusiastic oil collection, repeatedly attempted to talk them out of it.
However, despite the authorities' admonitions, many persisted in their impromptu harvesting, retreating to their homes with their liquid windfall. It was only later revealed that the containers had been carrying unrefined palm oil. By evening, after the leaks in the tankers were repaired, they resumed their journey towards their intended destination.
