Women of Keshatarra village in Bankura used the funds from the ‘Lokkhi’r Bhandar’ scheme to expand the village Durga temple and fund this year's puja. The villagers are delighted with this initiative from the local 'Lakshmis'.

Keshatarra is an agriculture-dependent village in Taldangra, Bankura. Many years ago, the locals started celebrating Durga Puja with a modest budget, but there was no lack of dedication or sincerity. Later, the villagers built a small temple, which has hosted the puja ever since. In recent years, the grandeur of the puja has increased. There were also plans to expand the temple.

Against this backdrop, to ensure this year's puja is conducted even better and to assist with temple construction, the women have decided to donate the entirety of their state government's ‘Lokkhi’r Bhandar’ scheme funds. For nearly two months, Mithu, Smritireka, Ruma, Rekha, Rita, Shantana, and Jhumara have gone door-to-door in the village, collecting over 150,000 rupees. The new temple will be inaugurated this Friday. On Wednesday afternoon, the women handed over the collected money from the ‘Lokkhi’r Bhandar’ project beneficiaries to Nityananda Pati, the secretary of Keshatara village's puja committee. The villagers have praised this initiative by the local women.
