Monday night's torrential downpour claimed eight lives due to electrocution in Kolkata. Even though the North 24 Parganas district did not experience as severe rainfall as Kolkata yet tragedy kept following. A panchayat worker from Sasan fell victim to another such tragedy.

Miraj Ali, 48, was attempting to clear accumulated debris and clean drains in his area when he came in contact with a nearby electrical transformer, ended up getting electrocuted.

Miraj, a resident of Tehatta village in Sasan, was employed by the Sasan panchayat to clean garbage, clear undergrowth, and spray oil for dengue prevention. Heavy rainfall lashed several areas of Sasan on Monday night, and A 'Samadhan Camp' was scheduled for Wednesday in the Paschimpara area of Tehatta. On Tuesday morning, Miraj had been clearing accumulated waste in the area in preparation for the upcoming 'Samadhan Camp'.

He was using a green bamboo stick to move debris near an electric transformer when, in an unfortunate moment of carelessness, the bamboo stick came in contact with the transformer, resulting in his electrocution. Locals rushed him to Barasat Medical College, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Ziaul Islam, the Deputy Chief of Sasan Panchayat, stated, "This incident occurred due to negligence. We rescued Miraj and brought him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he couldn't be saved." An official from the electricity supply department contended, "The individual had climbed onto the electric transformer to hang a flex banner. That's what led to this calamity. There's no issue related to stagnant water or any other oversight. If someone acts recklessly, there's little the electricity department can do about it."

Meanwhile, several trees along the Barasat-Barrackpore Road remain in a precarious state. This morning, during a mild storm, a falling tree branch struck a moving motorcycle, severely injuring the rider.
