One random evening at Jadavpur University turned chaotic when students clashed during a bizarre series of events. Several students organisation Jadavpur University were preparing intensively for the upcoming ICC election. Reportedly, on Friday morning, a group of students from SFI in the UG1 classes of the science faculty, where they campaigned about the need for the ICC election. After the campaign, two students were reportedly called to the Science Union room by members of We The Independent(WTI). It was alleged that they were interrogated and harassed.

Speaking to News Ei Samay, a JU SFI member Kaushiki Bhattacharya, said the recent incident at Jadavpur University was unprecedented and not in keeping with the institution’s long-standing student–teacher relationship. She stated that raising hands against a professor cannot be treated as an isolated episode and urged the university to take necessary action against those responsible. Referring to past ragging allegations, she said that calling two students to a union room and harassing them over political campaigning should be officially recognised as ragging.
In a Facebook post, the Science Faculty Students’ Union, controlled by WTI, alleged that on February 20, SFI members attacked general students during a poster campaign for “Sanskriti 2026” at the Science–Arts crossing. The union claimed several students were beaten and injured, with allegations of molestation also raised. Professors who tried to intervene were reportedly pushed. The post termed the incident an assault on the campus’s democratic atmosphere and demanded strict action against those responsible.

In response to media queries, Jadavpur Vice Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said, "For me, this incident is the rarest of rare. The teachers have gone there in the interest of the students and the university. The teachers are being beaten up there. What could be more unfortunate than this?" No complaint had been filed with the police till evening."
