Team India will play their first Test match of the series against South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Along with heightened security, strict traffic arrangements have been implemented.

Starting Friday, Eden Gardens will host the India–South Africa Test, marking the stadium’s return to Test cricket after nearly six years. Security has been increased following a recent explosion in Delhi, especially for team movements between their hotels and the stadium. The same level of security will continue throughout all five match days. Kolkata Police has issued special traffic advisories for November 14–18.

What are the key directives?

From November 14 to 18, between 7 AM and 7 PM, the movement of goods vehicles will be restricted in and around the Maidan and Eden Gardens area. However, goods vehicles can travel from Post Office Market via St. George’s Gate Road, Strand Road, and Vidyasagar Setu toward Howrah.

All goods vehicles will be prohibited from using the roads around the Victoria Memorial.

Traffic movement will be closed on Khudiram Bose Road, North Brook Avenue, and Goshta Pal Sarani between 7 AM and 7 PM during those five days.

Vehicles heading to the High Court must use Esplanade Row West.

No parking will be allowed on either side of the roads for 12 hours on all match days.

Parking will be strictly prohibited on Goshta Pal Sarani, Khudiram Bose Road, Government Place East, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Old Court House Street, Indira Gandhi Sarani, Gurunanak Sarani, and Dufferin Road.

Buses and minibuses from South Kolkata heading to BBD Bagh will be rerouted via Rashmoni Avenue, Government Place East, Old Court House Street, BBD Bagh, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.

Buses and minibuses from North Kolkata will move through Central Avenue, Ganesh Chandra Avenue, Mango Lane, BBD Bagh, SN Banerjee Road, and toward Rani Rashmoni Avenue.

For small cars and two-wheelers from South Kolkata, AJC Bose Road, St. George’s Gate Road, and Strand Road will remain open. For vehicles from North and East Kolkata, BB Ganguly Street, SN Banerjee Road, and Rani Rashmoni Avenue will stay open.

Buses from Kolkata to Howrah will be diverted via Diamond Harbour Road, Khidderpore Bridge, St. George’s Gate Road, Strand Road, Alipore Road, Belvedere Road, and Zirat Bridge.

Parking Restrictions

No taxis or private buses will be allowed to park around the Eden Gardens area. Buses stationed on Auckland Road will be relocated to Kiran Shankar Roy Road, Esplanade Road East, and Central Bus Terminus on match days.

These arrangements are subject to change based on the match-day and traffic conditions.
