A devastating fire broke out in an oil tanker right in front of a petrol pump in New Town on Friday, triggering panic in the busy area. Eyewitnesses said the blaze spread rapidly, raising fears of a major explosion due to the tanker’s proximity to the fuel station. However, a major accident was averted due to the driver’s quick and composed action, which helped prevent the fire from escalating further.
Multiple fire engines reached the location within minutes and began extensive firefighting operations to bring the situation under control. Firefighters worked in coordination to cool down the tanker and secure the surrounding area, ensuring the flames did not spread to the petrol pump.
Officers from New Town Police Station and New Town Traffic Guard immediately cordoned off the area to manage traffic and maintain public safety. Officials from Bidhannagar Police also arrived at the spot to oversee the situation and assist in emergency response efforts.
While the exact cause of the fire is still unknown. No casualties have been reported so far.
