Kolkata Police detained a man carrying an airgun barely a kilometre away from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s home in south Kolkata’s Hazra crossing on Thursday.

PTI reported that a senior police officer detained the man, identified as Debanjan Chattopadhyay, who was stopped after officers noticed his fishy movement in the area.

Who is Debanjan Chattopadhyay?

Chattopadhyay, who introduced himself as a teacher at a private school, was taken to the Kalighat police station for questioning. After a round of interrogation, police confirmed that no foul play was suspected.

Police sources said the man, believed to be in his 30s, had been carrying the licensed airgun inside his bag at the time of detention.
