Ahead of the second episode of the festive season, the Kolkata Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory keeping the upcoming Chhat Puja in mind to ensure "public safety and convenience." In the notice, Kolkata Police have stated strict instructions for vehicles coming into or going out of the city to curb unnecessary traffic.
This year's Chhat Puja is going to take place on 27.10.2025 (Sandhya Argh) and 28.10.2025 (Suryodaya / Usha Argh).
The Kolkata Police has also mentioned the timetables, from 12 PM to 10 PM on 27 October and 3 AM to 10 AM on 28 October, during which the traffic guidelines will stay in effect.
Vehicle movement guidelines:
In the notice, it has been stated that any kind of vehicle movement on the major roads connecting to different bathing Ghats in the city will be temporarily suspended. The Ghats that include Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Govt. Place East, Gostha Pal Sarani, Govt. Place West, Kshudiram Bose Road, Strand Road, Nimtala Ghat Street, Bagbazar Street, Mullick Ghat Street, Jagannath Ghat Street, Dai Ghat, Beadon Street, Bidhan Sarani, Strand Bank Road, B K Paul Avenue, Ahiritala Street, Sovabazar Street, G S Bose Road, Banamali Naskar Road, Kusthia Road and Jheel Road.
There will be restrictions on all types of goods vehicle movement, including vehicles carrying Chhat Puja-related goods within the city from 12 PM to 10 PM on 27 October and from 3 AM to 10 AM on 28 October.
An exception will be there for the emergency vehicles like vehicles carrying LPG cylinders only, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants, oxygen, milk, medicine, vegetables, fruits, fish, etc.
Parking, loading-unloading guidelines:
According to the notice, from 12 PM to 8 PM on 27 October and from 3 AM to 10 AM on 28 October, parking of vehicles, starting or ending their journey with passengers or any kind of goods, performing loading or unloading of any kind of goods will not be permitted on these roads/ streets-

However, parking may be allowed if considered necessary by the DC traffic police.
All types of vehicles will not be allowed to move towards west from the crossing of Kingsway and Plassey Gate Road. Vehicles connected with Chhat Puja will be negotiated through Plassey Gate Road for the parking lot.
Vehicles not related to Chhat Puja
Vehicles that are not related to the Chhat Puja will not be permitted to enter the following streets -
Beadon Street from the J M Avenue intersection
Nimtala Ghat Street
But vehicles related to Chhat Puja will be allowed to enter Beadon Street, Nimtala Ghat Street from east to west, but will not be allowed to proceed beyond Strand Road crossing.
Vehicles, other other than those meant for Chhat Puja and property line vehicles will not be allowed along -
Nimak Mahal Road and Dumayun Avenue from the CGR Road crossing and the entire Garden Reach Road up to the Swing Bridge,
S. N. Banerjee Road from Moulali crossing as & when required.
Parking for Chht Puja
Vehicles related to Chhat Puja will be allowed to park on Maharshi Debendra Road between Nimtala Ghat Street and Sovabazar Street and/or Strand Road North and/or Strand Bank Road, south of Kathgola.
But vehicles have to return via Sovabazar Street from west to east. Chhat Puja vehicles may also be allowed to park on the Maidan at the Car Parking lot.
Vehicles related to Chhat Puja will also be allowed to park in the following areas:
K.V.V Avenue one line parking both sides.
All along D.K.D Railway Quarter one line
Inside Bagbazar Durga Puja field
One line parking on Pramanik Ghat Road.
One line parking Sarbamangala Ghat Road (Stand Bank Road).
One line parking on Rabindra Sarani from D.C Banerjee Road & Rabindra Sarani to
K.V.V Avenue & Rabindra Sarani Xing.
Vehicles, other than those meant for Chhat Puja, will not be allowed to enter on Strand Bank Road from Dilwarjung Road up to Sarbamangala Ghat.
Chhat Puja vehicles will be diverted from Vivekananda Road and Bidhan Sarani crossing further North to avail Beadon Street.
Restrictions and diversions for Chhat Puja-related vehicles
No Chhat Puja vehicles will be allowed to move along
J M Avenue and C R Avenue up to Colootala Street crossing.
Vivekananda Road between C R Avenue and Bidhan Sarani crossing. Instead, they will be diverted towards the north along Bidhan Sarani and Beadon Street.
Chhat Puja vehicles coming from South along Hospital Road - Lovers Lane will be diverted as per need towards Gangasagar Complex via K P Road - Hastings - St. Georges Gate Road to park at segment (I & II) and Via KP Road - J N Island - Vijay Smarak for segment (IV), upon saturation of segment (I & II).
Chhat Puja vehicles will not be allowed on Sarat Bose Road and shall be diverted from Hazra Road crossing towards West to avail S P Mukherjee Road, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road and further onwards.
Auto Rickshaws along Beadon Street & Nimtala Ghat Street shall be restricted to ply between Bidhan Sarani / Beadon Street crossing & Nimtala Ghat as required.

No Chhat Puja-related vehicle will be allowed on Kalighat Bridge and Zeerut Bridge due to the height barrier of 3.15 mt.
Vehicles travelling into or within the city
For vehicles coming from Howrah
Chhat Puja vehicles coming from Howrah (North Kolkata) via Brabourne Road may avail Brabourne Road - India Exchange Place - New CIT Road - C R Avenue - Esplanade crossing - J L Nehru Road - Dorina crossing - R R Avenue - Netaji Statue.
Vehicles coming from North and East Kolkata
Chhat Puja vehicles coming from North and East Kolkata may avail Esplanade crossing - J L Nehru Road - Dorina crossing - R R Avenue - Netaji Statue.
Vehicles coming from South Kolkata
Chhat Puja vehicles coming from South Kolkata may avail K P Road - J & N Island - Vijay Smarak, or may avail Netaji Statue - R R Avenue, upon saturation of Segment - I & II.
Traffic regulated on a necessity basis
The vehicle traffic on the following routes will be regulated in the indicated manner or as considered necessary by the police on duty from 2 PM on 27 and from 2.30 AM on 28 October -
Sovabazar Street may be made One Way from West to East in between Strand Bank Road be and B K Pal Avenue.
Beadon Street may be made One Way from East to West in between Bidhan Sarani and Rabindra Sarani and in case of necessity vehicular traffic may also be regulated to enter Beadon Street, except Chhat Puja vehicles.
Nimtala Ghat Street may be made One Way from East to West.
Durga Charan Banerjee Street may be made One Way from East to West. Strand Bank Road may be made One Way from South to North in between Nimtala Ghat Street and Sovabazar Street.
Strand Bank Road may be made One Way from North to South in between Sutanuti OP and Sovabazar Street. (vii) Strand Road (N) may be made One Way from South to North in between Nimtala Ghat Street and K K Tagore Street.
Vehicle traffic along Strand Road (North) will be diverted from eastern eastern end of Howrah Bridge to avail Brabourne Road or M G Road to reduce vehicle volume on Brabourne Road, which would already remain saturated.
N. M. Road from E.M. Bypass to Phoolbagan xing will be made "One way/No Entry".

Vehicle traffic not related to Chhat Puja will be regulated as considered necessary in the following routes from 12 PM to 10 PM on 27 October and 3 AM to 10 AM on 28 October -
