According to sources, the fire started near the fish market section before spreading rapidly to adjacent shops. Thick black smoke covered the area, forcing people to run for safety.

Several fire tenders were deployed soon after the incident was reported. Firefighters began operations to control the flames, while the police cordoned off the area to prevent crowds from gathering. No casualties have been reported so far, as of the writing of the report.

Cause under investigation, major losses feared

Preliminary reports suggest both the fire department and local police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials from the local administration have also reached the site to assess the situation.

Just days ago, a similar fire broke out at a rooftop hotel on Prince Anwar Shah Road, also in South Kolkata. The back-to-back fire incidents have raised serious safety concerns in the area. Fire officials said the blaze is now under control, though cooling operations are still underway.
