R G Kar Hospital doctor's death triggers debate. 37-year-old Shubhajit Acharya was a pediatric specialist at R G Kar Medical College Hospital. Shubhajit, a resident of Shishirkunj in Madhyamgram, suddenly fell ill on Sunday night. He was rushed to a private hospital in Barasat. Where the doctors declared him dead. Exactly how his death occurred is still not clear.
According to hospital sources, he had taken several sleeping pills together. It is being assumed that this caused the doctor's death. However, his body has been sent to Barasat Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact reason behind his death.
The family claims that recently, the pressure of duty at the hospital had increased. Being a senior doctor, he was somewhat mentally distressed about work pressure. Additionally, the doctor also saw patients in private chambers at various places. Why he suddenly attempted suicide is not clear. Shubhajit's father Shyamal Kumar Acharya, said, "There was no family problem. There was work pressure as a senior doctor at the workplace. He lived with his wife. He also called me yesterday. He said, Dad, how are you? I was having physical problems. When I told him, he even suggested a medicine. What happened today, I don't know. There was something. Otherwise, no one does such a thing! But I can't understand anything."
Shubhajit's uncle has also broken down at his death. Even he's having a hard time figuring out why such a step was taken. Shubhajit's uncle, Subhash Chandra Bose, said, 'I can't even think how such an incident happened. But there was pressure of duty at the hospital. He was a senior doctor, so there was work pressure.' A shadow of grief has descended on the area due to the incident. Barasat police station has started investigating the entire incident.
