Kolkata along with Mumbai and several parts of Uttar Pradesh, have been placed on high alert after an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed eight people and left at least 24 others injured on Monday.
Kolkata Police has issued an alert across the city while naka checks across the city has already begun, as per latest inputs.
Following the deadly explosion outside Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening which claimed at least eight lives and injured two dozen others, authorities across major Indian cities have gone on high alert.
Kolkata has been placed on high alert. Police activated all units and began intensive security checks across railway stations, metro hubs and crowded intersections.
Kolkata Police have also stepped up security at Eden Gardens, which is set to host the first Test between India and South Africa from Friday. Both teams arrived in the city on Monday.
South Africa will train at Eden Gardens on Tuesday morning, followed by India’s practice session in the afternoon. Police officials said the stadium will remain under round-the-clock surveillance throughout the series.
Meanwhile, the Railway Police confirmed that security has been increased at all metro stations and major rail terminals.
Mumbai, too, tightened its security net. The city’s police force, already familiar with responding to high-threat situations, ramped up vigilance around public spaces, transport terminals and tourist areas.
