Patient admission has been suspended at the renowned Genesis Hospital of South Kolkata. Earlier, allegations of medical negligence surfaced. On top of that, the hospital failed to pay compensation to the affected patient's family despite the Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission's directive, even after 11 months.
The state's Director of Health Services Swapan Soren, was directed by the commission on Monday to immediately revoke Genesis's clinical establishment license for an indefinite period. This means the hospital will not be able to admit new patients from Monday onwards. However, the private hospital in Kasba can continue providing medical services to those currently admitted until they recover or are transferred elsewhere.

According to commission sources, a complaint of medical negligence was filed with the commission in December 2024. Along with medical negligence, Genesis Hospital was also accused of inflating bill amounts. After their guilt was proven during the commission hearing, they were ordered to pay ₹3,68,889 as compensation to the patient.
But while no one from the hospital attended the hearing, the compensation never reached the patient's family, even after 11 months had passed. Severely displeased by this, the commission ordered Genesis to be closed. However, no response could be obtained from any official of the accused hospital regarding this matter.
