This time the state has approached the Division Bench to block BJP's twin rallies. The single bench of the Calcutta High Court has granted permission for the BJP rallies in Sodpur and East Burdwan. The state has gone to the Division Bench challenging that verdict. On Tuesday, the state drew the attention of the Division Bench, challenging the verdict of Justice Kausik Chanda's bench. An application for an urgent hearing has been made. The Division Bench will hear the case on 4 November at around 3 PM.
The state's plea is that the court should order both these rallies to be stopped on the day of Raas and Guru Nanak's birthday. If rallies are held in those areas, administrative problems may arise. Therefore, the state has applied for their stoppage.
On Tuesday, BJP has a rally in Sodpur. The High Court's single bench has directed the rally from Sodpur to Agarpara Tentultala bus stop. On Wednesday, there will be a rally in East Burdwan from Bornilpur More to Curzon Gate.
The single bench has directed that BJP can hold the rally from 3 PM to 5 PM on Tuesday. This rally can be conducted with a maximum of 1,000 people. Suvendu Adhikari can deliver a brief speech after the rally. The organisers must ensure that there is no problem for the common people.
On the other hand, Wednesday's rally can be held from 2 PM to 6 PM. They can rally from Bornilpur More to Curzon Gate. Police will keep a strict watch on the law and order situation.
Police did not grant permission for both rallies. The single bench has given conditional permission. All eyes are on what directive the court gives today.
