A video recently went viral on Facebook, capturing a heated argument between a traffic sergeant and a biker. In the one-minute, 26-second video, the biker confronts the sergeant, accusing him of demanding Rs. 16,000 cash, although the reason is not stated in the video.

The user posted the video writing, “Have these people gone mad that they are trying to snatch the public’s phone? How much money do they need? They are demanding 16,000 rupees. Nothing to say to them”.

In the video, the biker can be heard saying, "Without permission, you cannot touch the phone”, while the sergeant keeps asking repeatedly, "Why are you recording it?”

The biker also alleges, "You can't even touch the keys of the bike and not even the camera." Notably, the Indian Motor Vehicle Act 1932 notes that only a traffic police personnel of the rank of an assistant sub-inspector can issue a citation, but they can't remove your bike or car's key.

The biker also accused the sergeant of asking for 16,000 rupees in cash, but the sergeant denied it in a visibly nervous manner.

Video sparks debate among netizens

The video has caused a broad debate among netizens. Some questioned the behaviour of the sergeant, citing the lack of a name tag. One of the comments reads, "Why is there no name tag? Is it even acceptable to conduct duty without a name tag?” This raised concerns regarding police accountability and whether officers could easily be identified while on duty.

Another user commented, "At this spot, the police intentionally signal vehicles to stop, often suddenly after Chingrighata. This is how people are trapped, as the signal seems to exist only for filing cases."

Questions about context and clarity

Some users pointed out the manner in which the video was filmed. Others claimed that the biker began recording in the middle of the incident, potentially interrupting the setting of what transpired. Others hinted that the clip does not reveal the entire sequence of events and thus leaves the audience in doubt about the entire situation.
