BJP MLA from Durgapur West constituency Laxman Ghorui's nephew Sahadev Ghorui has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor daughter of the same party worker. On Tuesday night, Kanksa police arrested Sahadev from the local Rajbandh area. For the past five years, Sahadev has been practically returning. The accused was produced before the Durgapur sub-divisional court on Wednesday morning, and the judge remanded him to 14-day jail custody.
On his way to the court, Sahadev said, "I was framed in a political conspiracy. I am innocent. I had a long-standing relationship with her”.

Regarding the arrest, the MLA said, "The police have arrested him. Legal action will be taken. He will serve trials in court.” He added, "Apart from that, we don't have any kind of relationship with our nephew. We were separated for about twenty years”.
On May 5, 2020, a BJP worker lodged a rape complaint against Sahadev at the Kanksa police station. The activist told the police station that his daughter was in a relationship with MLA Laxman's nephew Sahdev. In that case, Sahadev used to associate with the girl. Later, he raped his daughter and refused to have a relationship. As soon as the incident came to light, there was an uproar. The accused Sahdev fled the area.

Several BJP workers, including the victim's father, had gone to the police station several times and staged the strike demanding punishment for Sahdev. The police went to Sahdev's house in Bamnabera village of Kanksa block several times to look for him. But he was not found there. Finally, on Tuesday night, Sahadev was arrested in the Rajbandh area after receiving a tip-off.
The ruling party has spoken up on the incident. West Barddhaman district TMC president and Pandaveshwar MLA Narendranath Chakraborty said, "The state police have finally arrested Sahdev. He fled. I will tell the Leader of the Opposition in the state that you came to Durgapur and staged a dharna. Come, let's set up a dharna stage this time. Tell me something about this nephew there”.
