Convict in Park Street rape case, Nasir Khan's name linked up for another nightclub assault

Nasir Khan, convicted in the 2012 Park Street rape case, and his nephew Junayed Khan have been linked to a molestation and assault incident at a nightclub on Kolkata’s EM Bypass.

An assault and molestation incident at a nightclub on EM Bypass linked the names of Nasir Khan, convicted in the Park Street rape case and his nephew Junayed Khan. Police from Bidhannagar South station have sent notices to Nasir and Junayed on Tuesday early morning for an investigation into the incident that occurred early Sunday morning.

Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar told the media, "We have collected CCTV footage from the club. We are examining who played what role there. Statements of the complainants have also been recorded."

According to police sources, a case has been filed in this incident under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which includes charges of indecent behaviour, grievous hurt and unlawful detention. An eyewitness present at the scene claimed that early Sunday morning, a couple was partying at the club with their relatives and friends. At that time, an argument started between them and another group. Later, it escalated into a fight. The woman and her family hid in the club's liquor storage room for about half an hour. Police later went and rescued them. Police sources report that Junayed and others have also filed counter-allegations.

Nasir Khan was convicted in the 2012 Park Street rape case. He was released from jail around 2020. Nasir told the media, "I am ready to fully cooperate with the investigation. I was at the club that day, true, but I was not involved in any fight. Rather, I was trying to separate everyone. The truth will become clear once the CCTV footage is seen."
