Daring incident of theft in Sinthi. Gold businessman Sanjit Kumar Das was returning with 2 kg 380 grams of gold inside the dickey of his scooter. Trouble struck at the entrance to his workshop. Miscreants were lying in wait. They held a gun to his head, looted all the gold and fled. The incident occurred on Thursday night at Apurba Krishna Lane in Sinthi. As news of this massive gold theft emerged, it created a stir. Police have started investigating the incident.

According to police sources, Sanjit, a resident of West Midnapore, is currently living in Sinthi. His jewellery workshop is located here. On this day, he was returning from Barabazar on his scooter. The dickey contained gold bars worth approximately ₹2.5 crore to ₹3 crore in market value. The allegation is that several unidentified youths on bikes blocked his path at the entrance to his workshop. Threatening him with the display of firearms.

Sensing danger, Sanjit tried to flee but failed. The allegation is that the miscreants surrounded him and started beating him. Finally, they looted 2 kg 380 grams of gold and escaped. Immediately after the incident, Sanjit went to the Sinthi police station and filed a complaint.

Police have started investigating the gold theft incident. CCTV footage from the area is being examined. A search has also begun to track down the miscreants. However, who is or are behind the robbery is still not clear. Police are also unwilling to comment on this. But after this incident, questions about security in nighttime Kolkata have been raised anew.
