Transgender woman found murdered in South 24 Parganas; police launch special probe

The body of a transgender woman was found in South 24 Parganas’ Usthi area, prompting police to launch a special investigation into the suspected murder.

The body of a transgender person was recovered from bushes beside a road. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Tullone area under the Usti police station in South 24 Parganas. Police identified the deceased as Sonali, a resident of the Mandirbazar police station area.

According to local sources, Sonali regularly visited that area. But after Tuesday evening, she was not seen in the area anymore. On Wednesday morning, locals recovered Sonali's body and informed the police. Police arrived and recovered the body, sending it for post-mortem examination. Police suspect that Sonali was murdered during the night.

However, the exact reason why Sonali was killed is still not clear to the police. Police are investigating whether it was personal enmity or some other motive.

An official from Usti police station said, "All aspects are being examined. Locals are being questioned in this matter. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined." A special investigation team has already been formed in this case. The police official said that Sonali's family members will also be questioned.
