On Friday morning, a fatal road accident occurred at National Highway 117 in the Bishnupur police station area of South 24 Parganas. The highway, which is among the most significant in South 24 Parganas, is also referred to as the Diamond Harbour Road.

Local sources say the accident occurred before the Bhasha Pump village on Friday morning. Two private buses were heading from Amtala towards Kolkata. One bus was on the Raychak route going towards Kolkata, and the other bus on route number 235 was heading from Amtala towards Rajabazar. The driver of the bus that was going to Rajabazar is said to have been overtaking the Kolkata-bound bus. While overtaking, a bike suddenly came out of nowhere in front of him, and in his effort to avoid it, the bus driver lost control and hit the Kolkata-bound bus.

The force with which the bus hit the other bus was so heavy that the windows of the bus shattered, and people were thrown out. Local people rushed to assist with the rescue efforts. After receiving news of the accident, the Bishnupur police arrived at the scene. The injured were taken to Amtala Rural Hospital. The accident temporarily clogged the national highway, which was soon cleared after the traffic police intervened.
