19-year-old woman gives birth on moving train, railway officials extend helping hand

A pregnant woman gave birth to a child on a moving express train. The incident occurred on Thursday night at Hijli station in the Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railway. The incident took place on the 18419 Puri-Jaynagar Express train.

The train runs every Thursday from Puri in Odisha to Jaynagar station in Bihar. On that train, the pregnant woman named Rani Kumari and her family were travelling from Odisha's Cuttack to Samastipur. Their home is in Hathauri in the Darbhanga area of Bihar. On Thursday, they boarded the train to return home from Cuttack.

Her labor pain started on the train. Later, the pregnant woman gave birth to a daughter on the train. When the train stopped at Hijli station, the RPF, GRP and railway authorities were informed. Through their prompt action, the mother and newborn were taken to the railway hospital. The pregnant woman's husband said that both the mother and newborn are going under treatment at the hospital. Both are in good health.
